FKIP News – FKIP UMM Receives High Praise in Monitoring and Evaluation of PPG Implementation and Quality Assurance
The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) received high accolades during the Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) of Quality Assurance and the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) Program held from Tuesday to Thursday (November 5-7, 2024). The event aimed to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the PPG program's implementation while supporting efforts to enhance the quality of educators in Indonesia.
On the first day, the event opened with a warm welcome from the Dean of FKIP, Prof. Dr. Trisakti Handayani, who greeted the evaluation team from the PPG Directorate along with participants, including FKIP Vice Deans, PPG program heads, task force teams, lecturers, mentor teachers, students, and alumni.
“We warmly welcome Ms. Vina and Ms. Riza to FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. Over the next few sessions, our lecturers, mentor teachers, administrators, students, and alumni will share insights on how the PPG program operates at FKIP UMM. The success of this program is thanks to the dedication and collaboration of everyone involved,” Prof. Trisakti remarked.
FKIP UMM Vice Dean II, Prof. Dr. Abdulkadir Rahardjanto, highlighted the importance of constructive feedback from the PPG Directorate to refine the program's implementation and align it with government standards and field requirements.
“This Monev activity is invaluable for FKIP UMM as it provides constructive input to enrich our PPG program implementation,” Prof. Abdulkadir stated.
The evaluation process included interviews with lecturers, mentor teachers, students, and alumni to gather insights about the PPG program at FKIP UMM. One standout initiative was the student leadership project in collaboration with an orphanage. The project taught children how to process papaya into value-added products like papaya chips, papaya seed shampoo, and fish feed pellets from inedible papayas.
Another innovative student project involved producing diffusers from used cooking oil, demonstrating sustainable resource utilization.
Vina Maysari, S.T., a representative from the PPG Directorate, praised these projects for their local wisdom and environmental sustainability.
“These products are highly innovative and align with community needs. I hope students continue to develop these projects even after graduation to create a long-term positive impact,” she said.
The Monev team also visited FKIP UMM’s multimedia classrooms equipped with augmented reality (AR) technology, providing immersive learning experiences. The AR system allows students to virtually explore global locations from the classroom. Vina personally tested the Oculus device used for AR-based learning and commended FKIP UMM's facilities.
“The facilities here are outstanding, offering advanced technology that makes learning interactive. With AR, students can ‘travel’ the world without leaving the classroom, keeping them engaged and excited,” she said.
On the second day, the Monev team visited SMPN 1 Pagak, a partner school of FKIP UMM, to observe alumni implementing classroom teaching practices. This visit aimed to evaluate how alumni applied the knowledge and teaching methods acquired during the PPG program.
Through this Monitoring and Evaluation activity, FKIP UMM demonstrated the quality and excellence of its well-managed PPG program supported by adequate facilities. Vina Maysari expressed her hope for FKIP UMM to continue innovating and fostering professionalism among future educators.
“We hope that FKIP UMM’s PPG graduates will not only be competent but also inspirational, capable of guiding future generations with innovative approaches,” she concluded.(fd)
